q&a

Q. Is this your entire portfolio?

A. Yes and No.

Like me, this site will continue to evolve and grow. There are numerous samples that I still need to digitize, I also want to add more print samples and more blog entries… and who knows what I’ll be doing next! Keep coming back, and I might just surprise you…

Q. Why “Portfolio 51″?

A. It’s a tongue-in-cheek name for those aware of the true significance of Photo 51.

Before Watson and Crick could piece together their now famous model for the DNA structure, their insights came from a picture taken by Rosalind Franklin, a fellow colleague in the field. The photo was handed to them without Rosalind’s knowledge or permission by Maurice Wilkins, Rosalind’s direct supervisor. Wilkins shared the Nobel Prize with Watson and Crick in 1962 because it was his interpretation of the photo that helped Watson and Crick realize the importance of the helix structure.

But what about the author of the vital picture?

“With all she did to make Watson and Crick’s discovery possible, Rosalind Franklin was essentially ‘a de facto collaborator,’” comments professor Lynne Osman Elkin, insisting that she should have shared the Nobel prize along with the now famous trio.

I named this site “Portfolio 51″ in honor of Rosalind Franklin and in agreement with that idea.

Q. How much do you charge?

A. That depends on what project I’m working on.

Q. Why so many areas? Do you specialize in something?

A. I am above all else a writer and journalist, but I like to consider myself a professional Jack of All Trades.

In today’s “Flat World” there is a new eRenaissance revolution where Generation X takes the lead. Like the printing press, the Internet has made information available to the masses at affordable and lightning-quick channels. From YouTube to the outsourcing phenomenon described in Thomas Friedman’s book The World Is Flat: A Brief History of the Twenty-First Century, the globe is showing the first growing pains of a world headed for a whole new creative renaissance!

But I’ll leave you at that… (there’s more to come, I promise!) :)

Q. What else can we expect from you?

A. Great things! ;) Ha, ha!

But truthfully, I love being a Professional Jack of All Trades. There will be parts of my portfolio where I don’t have too many samples, and you’ll probably see a side note detailing whether or not I’m seeking more projects in that area, or if it’s just a hobby.

In his book The 4 Hour Workweek, Tim Ferriss asked the readers to think about what they wold be doing right now if they had all the money they needed and were smarter than the rest of the world… and I realized that honestly, I wouldn’t change a thing.

I’m getting paid to do all the things I love to do, and I get to spend time with my family. I’m still not doing everything I want to do, or have designed my completely ideal lifestyle (still a few dollars short on that), but little by little… one step at a time, my dears, one step at a time!

Balance is the key to everything!

Q. You say you’re an author, what are the titles of your books?

A. Yes I am! At last!

Those who know me for the past several years know that this was always a goal of mine. I didn’t, however, want to self-publish. I know, I know, the self-publishing world has gone through a revolution all it’s own, but it just isn’t for me at this time.

Thankfully, all the door knocking, hand-shaking, and yes, even some begging, finally paid-off. My new book is an inspirational/religious book about the basic 12 values taught by Jesus. It’s written for people of little or no faith, with some wonderful accompanying audio CD’s that narrate the book and retell the gospel stories through sound effects and with the participation of great voice actors.

At this time, the title is only available in Spanish.
